Organization Description
The Public Justice Center (PJC) is dedicated to protecting the legal rights of the underrepresented. It works to achieve systemic change - through litigation, public education and legislation. PJC also operates a Tenant Advocacy Project (TAP) for people facing eviction who have unlawful living conditions. PJC seeks to enforce and expand the rights of people who suffer injustice because of their poverty or discrimination. We advocate in the courts, legislatures, and government agencies, and through public education and coalition building. Current projects focus on tenants, workers, immigrants, prisoners, homeless children, families needing medical assistance, and creating a right to counsel in civil cases.

Program Description:
Our process for providing legal advice or representation begins with an intake conducted over the phone. Please call us at 410-625-9409 if you are seeking legal assistance.
Provides free legal assistance to renters in Baltimore City who are facing eviction or have questions about their rights; and renters statewide whose landlords are in foreclosure.
If you have concerns about pay as a worker, the PJC team can help figure out if your employer owes you money and what you can do about it.
If you have been suspended or expelled or removed because of an arrest in the community, or are the parent of student who has, PJC attorneys can work with you and the school system to resolve the situation.
If your or your child’s education has been disrupted due to homelessness or foster care, PJC attorneys can help enforce homeless students’ rights to stay in the same school or enroll in a new school and receive supportive services.
